Practices

Practices begin the week of January 6th. Your practice will be on your team’s scheduled day at time. Practices are one hour long. Courts are split into 4 half courts during practices. Your team is either assigned to Court A or Court B. There are banners in the gym showing which courts are which. The first week of practices there will be a parent meeting during practice. The last week of practices are the week of February 17th. There will be practices on President’s Day.

Games

Game schedules are on located on oncbasketball.com. The first Saturday of games are on January 18th. Players should arrive 10 minutes early before their game at the Athlete Entrance (Sign will be outside). Your locker room assignment will be posted outside the doors of the classrooms.  Players will not be returning to the locker rooms after the game because the next team will already be in there so they must take all belongings with them or give to a parent.

Quarters are 10 Minutes long with a stoppage at 5 minutes to put in new players. All players rotating at the 5-minute mark will be players who were not in the previous 5 minutes of play (Unless less than 10 players showed up for the game)

At the completion of a game players and coaches will leave the court and head to the room next to it for Team Huddle, an end-of-game devotion (Roughly 5 minutes). Parents are welcome to join the teams for the devotion. We ask that parents leave the court at the end of the game because the next game will be starting. We ask that any spectating children to remain seated with parents and family during the games. Please make sure any children are not unsupervised.

Weather

If Canfield schools are closed, practices will be canceled. In case of extreme winter weather on gamedays, we will notify you early Saturday morning of any cancellations. If we cancel a week of games, that week of games will be made up at the end of the season.

Rules

Kindergarten
Hoop Height: 7ft
Basketball Size: 27.5

At this age, most kids are playing basketball for the very first time. Therefore rules and calling fouls is pretty much non-existent. Leniency to the players, but reminders of the rules are given out. There is NO stealing off the dribble. Players can steal off the pass.To block a shot 2 feet must be on the ground and the player's hands up. There is no jumping up to swat a shot.

Traveling & Double Dribbling

Reminders to dribble the ball. Traveling is not called at this age.

Shooting Foul

If a player is fouled while shooting, the ball is given back to the player to take a free shot. After they shoot from the spot of the foul it is a live ball.
