EXCELLENCE

Verse: "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus." (Colossians 3:17)

Devotional: God wants us to give our best in everything we do. It’s not just about being the best basketball player or the best student; it’s about giving our best effort because we’re doing it for God. When we work hard and try our best, we’re showing God that we love Him with all our heart. Excellence doesn’t mean being perfect, but it does mean giving our best.

Illustration: Think of the best basketball player in the world. They practice hard, listen to their coach, and play their best every game. They show excellence. When you give your best at something, you’re not just doing it for yourself or your team—you’re doing it to show God that you want to honor Him in everything.

  • What are some things you do your best in?

  • How can we give our best to God in everyday things, like school or chores?

Basketball Application: In basketball, excellence means listening to your coach, practicing hard, and giving your best effort in every game. In life, it means giving your best to God. Whether you’re studying, playing, or helping at home, do it with all your heart. When you do everything for God, you’re showing Him how much you love Him.

Takeaway for the Week: Pick one thing this week to do with excellence. Maybe it’s cleaning your room, being kind to a friend, or working hard at practice. Do it as if you’re doing it for God!
